Steps:

  1. undo screw near the letter 'o' from 'open' that's indicated on the bottom left of the camera
  2. Step image
  3. Undo screw as indicated by the red arrow.
  4. for this, you need to lift the rubber covers over the data connectors
  5. Step image
  6. now you can simply slide out the carrier for the 'Date & Time Battery'
  7. Step image
  8. now you have access to the battery.
  9. The type is CR1616, 3V , lithium type, original brand as supplied by canon is Maxell.
  10. Battery goes in with the +positive side down (as pictured)
